The Book of Remembrance and Forgetting is a magical book similar to the Book of the Dead. However, instead of instructing the reader on how to control and bind the Dead, it teaches how to See into the past. Little else is known regarding the contents of the book, except that it contains information similar to the Book of the Dead. It teaches the reader, Lirael, to enter Death, the names of the Bells, the Free Magic spells for the Gates, and other necromantic information. It also teaches her how to use the Dark Mirror. This book is one of the items left for Lirael at the end of Lirael's Path. This is one of three known books of power that have the ability to change their contents.
